The Course develops professional skills of the physical therapist in Hydrokinesiotherapy for the benefit of the patient in the processes of prevention, evaluation, intervention, treatment and maintenance, related to impairments, functional limitations and disabilities
Promotes standards and guidelines for the practice of Hydrokinesiotherapy for the continuous improvement of the health status and well-being of the community
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES (Objectives).
Upon completion of the module, the student will possess knowledge and understanding:
1) of the physical principles governing immersion bodies
2) of the advantages of this therapeutic choice with regard to the prevention of injuries secondary to reduced motion/ immobility, i.e., joint limitations and structured muscle shortening related to outcomes of both orthopedic and neurological diseases
3) of the most appropriate ways of performing work sequences in water
4) of the management of problems that may arise in the water related to the outcomes of both orthopedic and neurological pathologies
Competency
At the end of the module, the student will be able to:
Set up a correct, logical and functional treatment plan
Identify the main work objectives in a sequential and propaedeutic logic,
Identify the main possible patient problems
Know the most appropriate ways of accessing the water in relation to different disease outcomes, different pools, tubs and changing rooms
Choose the most appropriate buoyant aids needed to perform work sequences
Perform the main and most important maneuvers of the method, Evolution of the A.S.P. Concept.
Knowledge
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
Define and set up a water work plan that is synergistic and supportive with the expectations and goals of a rehabilitation target that is as functional, social, and comprehensive as possible
Skills
Through viewing videos, photos, and hands-on practice in the pool
the student will be able to:
Plan, manage and schedule the intake of a patient in need of a water-based rehabilitation pathway
Highlight/know the main treatment goals and be able to define the time sequence of water work sequences
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS
The student will know and be able to describe the relationship between dry physiotherapy and water work and its rationale for integration
Development of confident Hydrokinesiotherapy practice.

TEACHING AND LEARNING
Teaching methods:
Lectures, interactive lectures, simulations, group work:
Lectures with audiovisual tools to support teaching
Practical lessons in the pool led by the lecturer
Workshops with practical exercises and small group work led by the lecturer
All organized in a socio-health rehabilitation center such as CR2 Sinapsi, unique at a national level.
