The science dealing with pain and in particular chronic pain has undergone a real revolution in recent years. These advances must necessarily be implemented in the clinical practice of the physical therapist, given their extreme relevance to improving the understanding and treatment of the patient with pain.
The primary objective of the course is to provide the principles and neuro-scientific basis for the management of acute pain and more complex pain conditions such as chronic widespread pain. The course will follow the suggestions published by the International Association on the Study of Pain (IASP) in its core curriculum. Special emphasis will be placed on the clinical relevance of these new concepts.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to distinguish pain understood as a personal experience rather than as a response to tissue damage, and to incorporate knowledge about the neuroscience of pain within their clinical reasoning.
